Online Leadership Series: Optimizing Truckload Operations, Profitability, and Utilization with AI-Optimizing Truckload Operations, Profitability, and Utilization with AI Course

Video Summary

The webinar explored how trucking and logistics companies can use AI to improve operations, profitability, and utilization. Speakers from KBX Logistics and Bison described two broad categories: “everyday AI,” such as tools for drafting, research, summarization, and coding, and transformational AI that supports or automates high-impact operational decisions.

Everyday AI is relatively low-risk and can help employees work more efficiently, but users must verify its outputs and remain accountable for decisions. As AI affects customers, drivers, data creation, or core operations, stronger governance, controls, and oversight are needed. Rather than relying on rigid rules alone, companies should consider the potential impact of failure, whether data is being consumed or created, and whether a tool could harm customer commitments or reputation.

For larger AI initiatives, technology is only part of the challenge. Success depends on sound data foundations, connected systems, clear processes, and deliberate change management. Bison’s investment in event-driven architecture helped data move quickly between legacy and modern systems. Both operators stressed the importance of explaining how roles will change and positioning AI as a decision-support or recommendation tool—not simply as a replacement for employees. This helps teams build trust and focus on exceptions, network-wide patterns, and higher-value decisions.

The speakers advised leaders to inventory existing AI use, encourage experimentation, identify genuine business pain points, and prepare data and processes before pursuing transformational applications. AI is not an “easy button”; curiosity, practical testing, and clear accountability are essential.
